FC Groningen vs Ajax

FC Groningen is currently in ninth place and is making a great comeback in the premier league after a dramatic start to the season. Last weekend the northern derby against SC Heerenveen was tied with 1-1, but also partly ruined by FC Groningen supporters who threw fireworks at fans of the Frisian home club. Let’s hope that these people can behave around the match against Ajax.

Ajax is not waiting for hassle. The team from Amsterdam still have to play against Juventus at the time of writing, but they are still involved in the title fight with PSV. If the goal difference becomes important, Ajax did good business last weekend by beating Excelsior 6-2 in its own Johan Cruijff Arena. Goals by Klaas Jan Huntelaar (3), Dusan Tadic (2) and Kasper Dolberg made the Amsterdam fans cheer and hope for a prize at the end of the ride.

A lot is said about this competition. Especially in Eindhoven. For example, Groningen trainer Danny Buijs would hate Ajax. Of course that doesn’t matter at all. The qualities are decisive. And Ajax has more quality than FC Groningen.
